Artist Statement:
“Sound the Drum” reflects creation as an act of invocation. Inspired by the ritual of a drum maker stretching leather and envisioning the life the drum will awaken, dancers, ceremonies, and joy. The work embodies sound before it’s heard. Figures on the surface illustrate this imagined vitality, while the driftwood frame represents ancestral grounding and the earth’s enduring memory.
